Thank you all for participating in the 2018 Kinder Goat Breeders Association election! In an association the size of ours, your vote does count, and your participation makes the kGBA what it is.
Over the past week, ballots were sent out to all current members. Unfortunately, there was a mistake on them. We have two members running for our open Member at Large position. Their bios were included in the most recent newsletter, as were the ballots. The bio accurately reflects the names of both candidates, but the ballot does not. Please note the Travis Johnson was incorrectly listed as Travis Durham on the ballot. These are the same person. Our deepest apologies to Travis and our members for any confusion this may have caused.
Thanks to the hard work of our secretary, John James, ballots have been mailed out for next year’s Board of Directors. Please exercise your rights as members by completing and returning them by October 31st. Along with the ballots, you will find a list of candidates and a brief introduction of each person. There is also a space for write-in candidates for each position, and we welcome any interested members to join the race and campaign for a position!
If you can’t run now, but think you might want to next year, please contact us any time – we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have, and we’ll keep you informed when election time roles around again.
You will also notice a space at the bottom of the ballots for comments. Please take time to include any comments, suggestions or concerns. These anonymous comments will be compiled and discussed by the board at upcoming meetings. Where necessary, resolutions or responses will be posted on the communique.
The KGBA nominating committee is currently accepting volunteers and recommendations for the annual election. Any person holding an individual membership effective as of March 1st is eligible to be a candidate or recommend another for a position.
Thinking about running? Please consider your decision carefully – becoming a board member is a wonderful way to help our Association grow and improve and we want all the help we can get, but it takes time and commitment to make things happen! Directors serve without compensation. The elected term is 1-3 years, with directors spending an average of 5-10 hours a month managing the affairs of the association.
Board members attend monthly board meetings via conference call, take part in various committees and work to promote the Kinder goat in accordance to our bylaws. Specific descriptions of each position can be found at www.kindergoatbreeders.com/bylaws.html
If you would like to volunteer or nominate someone else for a position, please contact us via email at email@example.com prior to September 20th. Please consider submitting a half-page bio (to be included with ballots) when you express your interest in becoming a candidate.
Time has flown by this year, and I must apologize for being so lax in posting announcements! I hope to have a few up over the week, starting with today’s announcement of election results.
Our members have elected the following people to the KGBA board for 2017:
President: Sue Beck, Wisconsin
Vice-President: Ashley Kennedy, Colorado
Treasurer: Lisa LaRose, Illinois
Secretary: John James, Ohio
Member at Large: Brenda Lee Shelt, Montana
Member at Large: Kathrin Bateman, Massachusetts
Member at Large: Kam Padlina, California
Thank you for the amazing response this year – we had the highest return rate yet! If you have any interest in running for a board position in the future, please contact us and we will happily put you on a list and contact you when election time rolls around again. In the meantime, please join me in welcoming our new member and welcoming back everyone else. We feel very lucky to have board members representing members across the United States, and look forward to another productive year with the KGBA!
